Brazen theft: ‘Good Samaritans’ offer tow, and take bike

ISLAMABAD:

Time and people have changed. They really have changed. Muhammad Sajjad experienced it the hard way. Sajjad was travelling on his Honda CD-70 motorcycle near Malpur village on November 18 when he ran out of fuel and had to push his two-wheeler along on foot as there was no petrol pump nearby.

As he was walking, two unidentified men riding a motorcycle stopped next to him and made him an offer which he could not refuse – a tow to the next petrol pump. They tied the motorcycles together with a rope and offered to let him ride pillion on the lead bike so he could rest, while one of the robbers handled the out-of-fuel bike.

After a little while, they came to a steep decline where they convinced Sajjad that they should remove the rope as his bike could coast downhill more easily without it. Sajjad agreed, and as it would turn out, it was the last time he saw his bike. After they reached Shahdara Mor near Murree Road, the man on his motorcycle was gone.

As he stood at the roadside looking for the man and his motorcycle, the other man also sped away. It was around 10 pm.

He went and lodged cases for theft and fraud at the Secretariat police station.

The suspects have not been arrested yet, said a policeman, adding that times have changed, and not for the better.

Separately, the police also arrested Khalil and Mustafa for passing off unhygienic water as mineral water and selling it in the Sabzi Mandi area.
