KARACHI: After a brilliant unbeaten run in the group stages, Pakistan’s handball team lost its semi-final clash against Oman 2-0 yesterday at the Asian Beach Games in Phuket, Thailand.

Pakistan were leading Group B without losing any of their five matches, but were clueless against Oman and went down 21-14, 20-12 in the two halves to concede the match 2-0.

The other semi-final saw defending champions Qatar removing the penultimate hurdle in their bid to retain the title by defeating Bahrain 2-0. The losing semi-finalists will now play against each in the third-place playoff tomorrow.

In the last edition, Pakistan had defeated Oman 2-1 in the third-place playoff event, while Qatar beat Bahrain 2-0 to clinch the title.

In the beach kabaddi competition, Pakistan won their second Group B bout 37-28 against Sri Lanka and will be up against Korea today.
