While raiding a suspected hideout of militants in Baldia Town's Muhammad Khan colony, Rangers recovered recovered the vehicle-based improvised explosive device (VBIED). According to the Rangers spokesperson, the raid was based on information gained from suspects who had been previously been arrested.
The bomb disposal squad (BDS) was called immediately to defuse the bomb.
BDS said that the bomb contained 12 kilogrammes of explosives. "It was concealed in the motorcycle's petrol tank and also contained ball bearings, nails and other things," said the BDS expert.
"There was a separate bottle of fuel for the motorcycle and to transfer it to another motorcycle." He added that a detonator was also attached to the bomb.
Police officials reached the site and cordoned off the area. They said that the motorcycle had been stolen in July 2014 within the limits of the Shahra-e-Noor Jahan police station.
A case was registered and further investigation is being carried out.
