Handball team reaches semi-finals

KARACHI: Pakistan’s handball team made it to the semi-finals at the Asian Beach Games, defeating Bahrain 2-1 in their last Group B match on Wednesday in Phuket, Thailand.

Bahrain won the first half 21-18 but Pakistan levelled the score with a 20-19 wwin in the second. The match went on to a penalty shoot-out, which Pakistan won 8-6 to claim the match 2-1. The national team will now face Oman in the last four today.

Last year’s winners Qatar and runners-up Bahrain also made it to the semi-finals, where they will play against each other today.

Meanwhile, Pakistan defeated Oman 42-33 in their opening kabaddi match and will play against Sri Lanka today.

Elsewhere, Pakistan exited the beach volleyball event after losing their final group match 2-0 to the Philippines. The national team won just one of its five group matches and finished bottom of Pool F.
