Up to speed: Residents of Swat assured of prompt service delivery

MINGORA: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Right to Public Services Commission Chief Commissioner Azmat Hanif Orakzai on Tuesday said officials would fulfil their role and provide speedy service delivery to the public.

During a seminar in Saidu Sharif to raise awareness about the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Right to Public Services Act 2014, he assured the legislation would be implemented. He also discussed the rights of citizens in detail during his speech. The event was attended by officials of the district administration and a large number of people from Swat, Malakand, Dir, Shangla and Buner.

K-P Minister for Irrigation Mahmood Khan told the audience the provincial government would practically implement the act apart from raising awareness among people. “Patwaris, teachers, doctors and all other public servants would facilitate the general public.” He warned that legal action awaited those officials who failed in their duties. The minister asserted the struggle for better governance would continue.

The speakers said the Constitution of Pakistan allowed every citizen to demand their individual and collective rights from the government. Officials urged the people to inform authorities about their concerns and reservations over the act. They reiterated that all services from government offices would be provided to the public within two to 30 days without the need to use sources or offer bribes.

Fard (land document) would be obtained in seven days, registration of birth/death certificate in two days, approval of building plan in a maximum of 30 days, issuance of domicile certificate in 10 days, while FIRs and other reports at police stations would be filed immediately. Timeframes for important services like health, education, obtaining arms/driving licences, vehicle registration and municipal services would be notified soon.

They also said more than 30 acts have been passed into legislation by the PTI-led coalition government.
