NOWSHERA/ BARA: As many as eight people were found dead on Tuesday in various areas of Nowshera district and Khyber Agency.

According to Nowshera police, five bodies stuffed into gunny sacks were found in Bara Bhanda, Risalpur in the morning, while a bullet-riddled body was found on a roadside in Khairabad.

Residents of Bara Bhanda spotted the corpses in a small thicket and informed the police, said Risalpur police official Khadmain Khan. Law-enforcement officials rushed to the site and shifted them to the police station for identification.

“There were no bullet wounds on the bodies and we found CNICs in their pockets,” Khadmain added. The deceased have been identified as Asghar Ali, Noor Rahman and Irshad Ali, Mushtaq Ali and Zulfiqar Khan. According to Khadmain, three of the men — Asghar, Rahman and Irshad — were residents of Mardan while the other two hailed from Swabi and Rawalpindi.

The bodies were shifted to a hospital for autopsy. Moreover, the policeman added that Irshad had been wanted by the police in multiple cases of robbery and car theft.

Another official of the Risalpur police said initial investigations suggested the men had been poisoned. Further investigation is under way.

Meanwhile, the man found dead in Khairabad was identified as Ghulam Sarwar. According to Khadmain, the deceased was a cab driver and was killed while trying to resist a car-snatching attempt.

Khyber

Two unidentified men were also found dead in Bara subdivision of Khyber Agency.

An official of the khasadar force told The Express Tribune that residents spotted the bodies lying on a roadside in Akka Khel on Tuesday morning and alerted local police officials. He added security forces and khasadar officials then reached the site and shifted the bullet-riddled bodies to the levies centre.

However, the deceased could not be identified as no one had come forward to claim them.

Alleged spying

Militants belonging to the banned outfit Lashkar-e-Islam (LeI) bludgeoned a tribesman to death in Mehraban Kallay, Tirah Valley, the khasadar official further said. He added the deceased tribesman had been accused of spying on militants for the security forces.

In yet another incident of violence, a LeI sniper shot and injured a volunteer of the Tauheedul Islam pro-government militia. According to the political administration, the volunteer whose name could not be ascertained had been deployed at a check post when he was attacked. He was rushed to a hospital in Peshawar and was said to be in critical condition.
