Long outstanding: APNS asks Sindh govt to clear dues
Issue lingers on resulting in accumulation of Rs450 million
KARACHI:
The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) has requsted the Sindh government to clear dues by November 30, otherwise the society will suspend the advertisements of the provincial government in member publications. A meeting of APNS Sindh committee expressed its dismay over the consistent indifference of the Sindh government to clear the dues of APNS members despite various pledges and assurances by the high officials not less than the chief minister and the information minister. Sindh CM Qaim Ali Shah had assured a delegation led by the APNS president Hameed Haroon that old outstanding dues of over Rs40 million will be paid in four tranches of Rs10 million each, but despite various reminders and subsequent assurances, the payment has not been made. The meeting noted that the issue has lingered on resulting in accumulation of Rs450 million. This situation has caused acute financial crunch to the newspaper industry, hence there is no option left to APNS but to take action against Sindh government.
