Human trafficking scandal: Probe into scandal takes a fresh twist

ISLAMABAD: The high-profile international human trafficking scandal of 19 Afghan nationals from Islamabad airport to UK has taken a new turn after the investigation officer of the case approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against his repatriation from Special Investigation Unit (SIU) to Punjab police.

The FIA headquarters had earlier shifted the investigation of this case from FIA Islamabad Zone to SIU and appointed Inspector Alamdar Hussain Shah as its investigation officer a few days ago to ensure impartial probe. But he was repatriated to Punjab police on Nov 12 in the initial stage of the investigation.

In his petition before the IHC, he took the plea that it was planned scam by influential mafia who was supported by some influential elements within the agency and these hidden hands are making all-out efforts to save that mafia.

He also requested the court to direct DG FIA to register a new case against the real culprits involved in the scam and informed the court that investigation was restricted to low ranking officials and real culprits are free, probing whom which might annoy the involved influential.

Admitting the petition, Justice Athar Minallah issued stay order against the order of FIA headquarters till next hearing and issued notice to all three respondents including DG FIA, Director Admin and Deputy Director Establishment for Nov 19.

The case is being also investigated by a UK immigration and Border Agency team. Initially the case was registered with FIA Islamabad Zone but on the request of British authorities the investigation was transferred to SIU of FIA.
