
Rawalpindi Excise and Taxation department has impounded 160 vehicles and motorcycles in Rawalpindi city for defaulting on token tax and not possessing registration documents.
Most of the impounded vehicles’ owners had not paid the lifetime token tax.
The special operation was launched on directives of Punjab Secretary Excise and Taxation Khalid Masood Chaudhary and Director Excise Jam Siraj Ahmed.
Five teams of the department carried out the checks at Civil Lines, city and cantonment areas. They checked a total of 1,326 vehicles and motorcycles. Of them, they issued challan slips to 103 vehicles.
The vehicles running on city roads with cancelled registration numbers are also being impounded during the operation. They are also taking action against unregistered vehicles.
An Excise and Taxation department spokesperson told the media that the
drive will continue in different areas of the city till November 30. The spokesperson said that Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) Nazia Javed is supervising the operation.
