TEVTA, LCCI agree on bridging ‘skill gap’

Officials say workforce key to growth potential.

LAHORE: The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) is currently upgrading its curricula in consultation with the private sector to produce international standard manpower, according to Tevta Chairman Irfan Qaiser Sheikh.

Speaking at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) on Friday, Sheikh said Tevta was looking to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the LCCI. He suggested a combined liaison committee, adding Tevta labs were being upgraded through extra funds.

“Trained manpower can play a vital role in boosting national economy and helping overall growth of the industry,” said the chairman. “Industrialists, entrepreneurs, manufacturers and service providers are the backbone of the economy.”

Speaking on the occasion, LCCI Senior Vice President Mian Nauman Kabir said LCCI and Tevta were making collective efforts to ensure provision of sufficient and adequate workforce to the industry.



He added the collaboration could bridge the ‘skill gap’ which would lead to a quantum jump in exports of the country, by value addition, responding to technological shifts in manufacturing and facing challenges of globalisation.
