FAISALABAD:

Faisalabad Waste Management Company (FMWC) Managing Director Amjad Ali Awan said on Friday that the company would launch a public awareness campaign regarding the importance of cleanliness in collaboration with educational institutions.

He was speaking at a meeting in this regard at the FWMC Complex.

Awan said students would play a crucial role in raising awareness regarding the importance of cleanliness. He said the company would encourage volunteers to organise events at their colleges and universities.

Awan said the FWMC would support them in their endeavours. He said the volunteers should not limit their efforts to their institutions and strive to sensitise society regarding the importance of cleanliness.

Awan stressed the need for eliminating use of polythene bags and it was mandatory to correct societal attitudes to prevent their use.

He said the FWMC was collaborating with other institutions to motivate the public to maintain cleanliness standards. Awan said it would be impossible for the company to maintain standards in Faisalabad, a city of 3 million people, if the citizens continued to litter everywhere. He said standards could only be maintained if the people realised their civic obligations and were motivated in this regard.

Awan said the FWMC had been striving to keep the city clean since its inception.

He said the awareness campaign would be launched soon and selected volunteers from universities to impress on schoolchildren the importance of cleanliness.
