BB's assassination: UN report aftermath

ISLAMABAD: The officers who have been made OSD by the federal government in the light of UN commission report on assassination of Benazir Bhutto are still working in their respective offices and no new officers have been appointed in their places.

The government had made 6 officers including former DCO Rawalpindi Irfan Elahi as OSD and their names were also put on ECL.

The others who were made OSD included the then DIG, Abdul Majeed Murawwat, who is now working as AIG Punjab. Former CPO Rawalpindi Saud Aziz is serving as DIG Multan. Former SP Operation, Yasin Farooq, SP Khurram Shahza and SP Ashfaq Anwar were also made OSD but they are still holding their offices.

Sources informed that no one among them had reported to establishment division so far.

Additionally, Director General Rescue 1122 , Dr Rizwan Naseer said on Tuesday that the site of the fatal attack on Benazir Bhutto was washed down by order of former City Police Officer Rawalpindi Saud Aziz.

Dr Rizwan Naseer was speaking at a press conference in Lahore. He said rescuers requested police to collect the evidence but were told to wash the site instead. According to an internal inquiry report of rescue 1122, the rescuers were not responsible for the site being washed and the report has been sent to the government.

Fayyaz Alam | 14 years ago | Reply This report reminds me of an old joke. A person, whose son was charged with murder, was looking for a lawyer. One lawyer quoted him 50 Thousand rupees as his fee. The person thought this lawyer is cheap so he went to the expensive one. He paid 5 Lac rupees. After a few month he ran into that old lawyer. That lawyer asked, 'What happened to your son'?. 'He got hanged', replied the old man. The lawyer got angry:'Oh my God! why you paid 5 Lac when I could have done the same thing with 50 Thousand rupees?'. UN report has given me the confidence that I could have reached the same conclusion with much less money!

Rahmat | 14 years ago | Reply It is high time that the GoP starts acting against the REAL culprits behind yet another conspiracy hatched by "patriotic elements" within Pakistan who decide the fate of our entire country's political future in the dark/abroad and with no regard to accountability or remorse. We all know that the real culprits/reasons behind the ZA Bhutto and Bhutto Jr murders, the Zia murder and the Ojhri Camp disaster (to name a new) have not seen (and will never see) the light of day. Let us not throw the BB case in the same Black Hole we conveniently call "Pakistani politics" since that would be the equivalent of asking the establishment (who almost always work in connivance with opportunist politicians) to perpetrate another "incident" as a means to an end as and when they see "fit". There is no use in only a measly CPO and other "little fish" being subjected to public and legal scrutiny after a waste-of-money report published by a bunch of foreigners who repeated all that the Pakistani people already knew! All of us know the facts, more or less, so why don't we do something about the real culprits for once?? Our dear old (Ex) DG MI Nadeem Ahmed, Musharraf the cocky "i-would-rather-get-martyred-sitting-in-the-Dorchester-a-million-miles-from-home-than-run-away" General, Rehman Malik (Zardari's protocol officer), Farhatullah Babar and "Robin Hood" Zardari (who is the LARGEST beneficiary of the BB assasination/cover-up by a MILE [there, I said it, you know you think that every day too!]) should be questioned just as stringently to end this culture and to foster REAL accountability and democracy in Pakistan. Otherwise, I'm afraid, we will only be hearing our oh so mighty army chiefs and politicians (read: landlords or establishment cronies) spit out MEANINGLESS WORDS such as "democracy in practice", "justice" and "progress" and NOTHING MORE for as long as Pakistan (or I) live. Who would like to see Mighty Mush and Zealous Zardari (alongwith a bunch of S-350 driving "army" and political big wigs) behind bars, once and for all? I am willing to shoot myself if it turns out that I am the only one with this view.

Hasan | 14 years ago | Reply We still don't know who killed poor old Liaquat Ali Khan. It's almost as unfortunate that nobody cares to know anymore. It's also likely that we will never find out who killed Benazir. Which begs the question, why did the government pay this ridiculous sum of money for a UN Report that doesn't accomplish what should've been the basic premise of the report: Who killed her? It's also very telling that 2+ years after her death and a similar period into a PPP Administration, nobody, including her widower (and the President of Pakistan), has answered that very question. Dancing around and accusing the Musharraf administration for not providing "adequate safety" is not the same as saying, "The general ordered her murder". It's pathetic.

Fayyaz Alam | 14 years ago | Reply Why prime ministers are murdered in Rawalpindi? Does this mean that there is an infrastructure (intelligence agencies?) that support the whole process? Usually there are rehearsals when such crimes are to take place. If there is no structural support and had it been another city, most of these would-be murderers would have been arrested while suspiciously visiting these sites before the Jalsa! Is that the reason Rawalpindi was chosen for Liaqat Ali Khan and BB (because all the agnecies are based there)? It was a pre-planned and callous activity. If this goes unpunished, it would pave way for many more injustices against the people of Pakistan.
