Formal arrival: Lt-Gen Rizwan Akhtar calls on Mamnoon

President says professional expertise of DG would provide an impetus to strengthening intelligence apparatus, defence

ISLAMABAD: The newly appointed director general of the Inter-Services Intelligence agency, Lieutenant-General Rizwan Akhtar, called on President Mamnoon Hussain on Tuesday to discuss the current security situation in the country. Other professional matters also came under discussion. The president congratulated Akhtar on his appointment as the head of the ISI and wished him well in fulfilling his new responsibilities. He expressed confidence that professional expertise of the ISI director general would provide an impetus to further strengthening the intelligence apparatus and defence of the country. Later in the day, army chief General Raheel Sharif visited the ISI head office in the capital to meet the recently appointed spymaster. According to the ISPR, the army chief was received by General Rizwan on his arrival. “The arcmy chief was briefed in detail about the internal and external security situation of the country,” said the official release. General Raheel appreciated the role played by ISI in strengthening national security and lauded the contributions and sacrifices of its officers and men towards enhancing the defence of the motherland.
