Stance upheld ‘State responsible for June 17 violence’

LAHORE: Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chairman Tahirul Qadri said on Sunday the state machinery and not the Taliban or Al Qaeda were involved in the June 17 violence in Model Town. He was addressing a convention of Pakistani community in Houston, according to a press release issued by the PAT secretariat. “State institutions are being sold to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders who control the Privatisation Commission. What kind of economic vision is this?” Qadri said. “Whenever the PML-N comes to power it starts selling state institutions.” He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had sold 52 state institutions in his two terms in power. He said the prime minister now planned to sell another 52. In his message on Iqbal Day on November 9, Qadri said the youth should follow Iqbal’s message and work hard. “After coming to power, the PAT will make Iqbaliat part of the curriculum at all levels of studies.
