The police APC came under attack when unidentified gangsters opened fire at the personnel in Singu Lane, Lyari, within the limits of Chakiwara police station. According to sources, the personnel were entering Singu Lane to dispel a clash between the Uzair Baloch and Baba Ladla groups when the incident occurred. SSP Sheeraz Nazeer said that the gangsters opened fire at the personnel when they tried to arrest them. As a result, a tyre of the APC burst, but the personnel remained unhurt in the attack. He added that the police cordoned off the area and a search operation was underway.
Earlier on Saturday night, an alleged member of a Lyari-based gang was killed in an encounter with the police. The encounter took place in Kalakot, Lyari, when the police conducted a targeted raid at the gangsters' hideout. The suspects initially opened fire at the police. In the retaliatory fire by the police, one gangster was killed while his companion managed to escape. The body was taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi. He was later identified as Khalil Baloch, who was affiliated with the Uzair Baloch gang. Police officials said that the suspect was involved in a number of cases of crime.
Separately, two suspected criminals were arrested after an encounter with police in Pirabad. SHO Nasir Mehmood said that the police have also recovered Rs300,000, two pistols and a motorcycle from their possession, adding that the suspects were involved in various cases of street crime.
In another encounter, three suspected street criminals were arrested after an encounter with the police at Gulzar Colony area of Korangi Industrial Area. The arrested suspects were identified as Ibrahim, Hassan and Khizar. Two pistols were also seized from their possession.
In a separate incident, two suspects, identified as Noman Khan and Obaidullah were arrested by the Jamshed Quarters police. Police officials said that the suspects were intercepted during snap checking, adding that they opened fire at the police and tried to escape. The police, however, managed to chase them and arrested both the suspects. Weapons were seized from their possession.
