Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: UBL’s Ahsan Ali scores attacking double-century

20-year-old’s innings lit up a match that is headed for a draw

KARACHI: A brilliant double century by 20-year-old Ahsan Ali guided UBL to 489 in their first innings against Multan Tigers in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold on Saturday. Ali smashed 224 off 270 balls as UBL ended day three on 489-4 in a match that will almost certainly end in a draw.

In another match, NBP’s Ataullah and Ziaul Haq took three wickets apiece to restrict Karachi Dolphins to 197 in their second innings. NBP, who scored 271 in their first innings, are batting on 19-1 and require 114 more to win.

Meanwhile, Peshawar Panthers are 241-5 in their second innings after following on but are still 66 runs behind ZTBL’s first-innings score of 467.

Islamabad Leopards, after dismissing Wapda for 196 in their first innings, are 87-5 in their second innings with a lead of 120 runs.

At the Pindi Stadium, Rizwan Akhtar’s six-wicket haul helped Rawalpindi Rams bowl out SNGPL for 189 in their first innings. Rams, however, were struggling at 85-7 at stumps.

Lahore Lions declared their first innings after scoring 457-7 courtesy of Umar Siddique’s 166 off 275 balls. In reply, PQA were 27-1 at stumps.

Silver edition

Karachi Zebra won by six wickets against Hyderabad Hawks as Naveed Khan hit 62 to help the Karachi side reach the 178-run target in 53.3 overs.

KRL posted a first-innings total of 253 with Usman Arshad scoring 101. PTV were 113-4 at stumps, 120 runs ahead.

Bahawalpur Stags scored 293 in their first innings, while Sialkot Stallions were 85-4 in their second innings but are still 23 runs behind after Stags took a 108-run first innings lead.

Nasir Khan scored 149 for Abbottabad Falcons to post 353, while Faisalabad Wolves were 21-1 in their second innings.

Meanwhile, Shahid Afridi took four wickets in the second innings for HBL as they defeated SBP by an innings and 40 runs.

No play was possible at the LCCA ground in the Lahore Eagles vs Quetta Bears match due to rain.
