Two booked under blasphemy laws in Jhang
The accused allegedly made derogatory remarks during a mourning procession on the fourth of Muharram

Police on Friday booked two people in Jhang on charges of committing blasphemy for passing remarks against companions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
A case has been registered on the complaint of Amanullah, the head constable of the security branch of Kotwali police station.
“He was on duty to oversee a mourning procession on the fourth of Muharram on the Fowara Chowk Rail Bazaar. While the procession was passing through the Rail Bazaar Chowk near a mosque, Faisal Shah – the accused -- passed derogatory remarks which come under the ambit of section 295-A of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC),” Amanullah said.
SHO Kotwali Aamir Sajjad Cheema sent Amanullah’s report to the legal branch of the police department, after which police registered a case Thursday night under section 295-A of the PPC.
The investigation of the case was assigned to Assitant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Police Shakoor Ahmad.
Ahmad told The Express Tribune that evidence is being collected and witness statements are also being recorded on the basis of the report furnished by the security branch and the subsequent registration of the case.
“The accused will be arrested on the basis of the collaborative evidence and statements from people of the area,” Ahmad said.
He said the investigation is underway, and the arrest of the accused has been deferred till the collection of irrefutable evidence in support of the allegations.
