The University of Agriculture will reopen on November 10 following a three-week closure brought on by a clash at the campus which claimed the life of a student.
The university was closed on October 21 after an exchange of fire between two groups caused the death of student Altaf Alam. Several others were injured in the violence.
Consequently, 11 students involved in the incident were rusticated from the university.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Agriculture University Director Administration Muhammad Arif said after several meetings of university officials, it was decided on Thursday that the institute would reopen on November 10, while hostels will open on November 8.
He added the university initially had several entry points, but now only three would be used. Arif said the remaining gates would be closed for all kinds of entry, while only vehicles with stickers will be allowed into the campus.
The director said a complete ban has been imposed on student politics and strict action would be taken against anyone involved in such a practice. He confirmed that during a meeting, it was decided that 11 students involved in the violence would be rusticated and their entry was also banned.
He said investigations were under way and action would be taken shortly against other students involved.
