PESHAWAR:

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Thursday filed a formal reference of over Rs3.7 million against former secretary to chairman of the Higher Education Regulatory Authority (HERA) in an accountability court of Peshawar.

NAB authorised an enquiry against Gulzar Ali along with others on March 12, 2014, accusing him of embezzling public money and depositing it in his bank account. The enquiry was turned into an investigation on August 18, 2014.

The bureau alleged the suspect either destroyed or covered office records to hide this embezzlement. HERA, being unable to recover the looted money, requested NAB to conduct an enquiry against the suspect and recover the amount.

Gulzar Ali was arrested by NAB on June 3, 2014 and is currently released on bail granted by the Peshawar High Court since July 23.
