The children, Hunzula, Saira and Hafeezullah, had found the previously un-exploded mortar shell in a field in Tughalpura near the border with India. Thinking it a toy, they started playing with it before taking it home. The mortar shell later exploded, killing the children.
Residents claimed that the mortar had been fired by Indian security forces.
DSP Irfanullah said that the children had found the shell fired by Indian forces on Monday. However, it exploded on Tuesday.
On October 29, Pakistan had lodged a protest with India after their forces shot dead an elderly villager who had inadvertently crossed the border while tending to his fields.
At least 14 people have been killed by unprovoked Indian firing across the Line of Control and the Working Boundary since early October.
PM orders probe
The Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took notice of the incident and ordered an investigation while condoling the grieving families of the children.

@Indian: Really! that is the question that comes to mind ?
Indian way of offering olive branch. Very sad for losing young souls. Peace.
Most unfortunate. Are the young children of our two countries destined to die in these ways? Is this the future that the two countries saw when both achieved independence? It is a question that we must all answer.
Indian BSF had gone mad from instruction by Modi. The Butcher of Gujarat knows no humanity.
And still Nawaz Sharif is Silent
A very sad incident, why are the parents allowing the children to venture into border areas?
