LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Raiwind on Sunday. The two discussed the current political and law and order situation in the province.

The Punjab chief minister briefed the premier about the security arrangements taken for the Muharram.

PM Nawaz asked the CM to ensure that the benefit of reduction in petroleum prices reached the people.

Later, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif presided over high level meeting of Price Control Committee which reviewed the measures taken for transport fares in the wake of fuel price cuts.

He said that it will be a grave injustice if the ordinary citizens did not benefit from reduction in prices.

Windfall for agri-sector

Meanwhile PM Nawaz in a statement on Sunday said that the timely decision of increase in the support price of wheat to Rs1,300 per 40 kg, slapping 20% regulatory duty on wheat import and decrease in diesel rates would reap huge dividends to farmers.

Growers were likely to earn Rs3,500-5,000 per acre more due to these decisions, he said.
