KARACHI: A former councillor belonging to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was shot dead in Lyari on Saturday. Forty-five-year-old Nazeer Baloch, son of Abdul Karim Baloch, was shot dead by two unidentified men riding a motorcycle. Police officials said that the deceased used to live near Brohi Chowk, Lyari, within the limits of the Kalakot police. They added that Baloch was standing at a local hotel near his house when unidentified motorcyclists targeted him. He was shot multiple times and was taken to Civil Hospital, Karachi. He succumbed to his injuries during treatment. DSP Anwar Ali Shah said that since the deceased was a supporter of the Uzair Baloch group, the members of the rival Baba Ladla group were allegedly behind the incident. A case has been registered while further investigations are under way. He was the second former councillor of Lyari belonging to the PPP who was killed during the last week. Earlier, on October 24, former PPP councillor Abdul Khaliq, 60, was shot dead when he came out of the Eidgah Masjid after offering Fajr prayers in Kalakot, Lyari.
