KARACHI: A police constable of the Sindh Reserve Police (SRP), Kamran, was taken into custody after he opened fire and injured a young man, Shams, at Cafe Clifton in Defence Housing Authority on Saturday evening. Darakshan police SHO Ahsan Zulfiqar, who has detained Kamran, confirmed said that the victim is a drug addict and that Kamran opened fire by mistake as he thought he was attacking them. There were reports that the accused cop was a security guard for prisons minister Manzoor Wassan, who had come with his family to the restaurant. Clifton SSP Faisal Bashir denied these reports and insisted the accused cop was the guard of a private person, Muhammad Ali Wassan. The injured was moved to Jinnah hospital, where the doctors said his condition was stable as he was shot once in the leg.
