Press Release November 02, 2014

KARACHI: A crackdown against flour mills that have increased flour prices illegally has been launched in accordance with the directives of food minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar. Moreover, three flour mills have been issued show-cause notices for apparent profiteering. District food controllers raided various flour mills in the Centre and West districts and found 39,600 wheat bags in AR Flour Mills, 32,500 in Masoom Roller Mills and 15,000 in Blessing Roller Flour Mills, which were hoarded there and were more than the allowed amount. These flour mills have been issued show-cause notices for keeping more wheat bags than required and increasing flour prices. According to the law, a flour mill can retain 5,000 wheat bags for 10 days. Dahar has termed the increase in flour prices illegal and unjust and has ordered to launch a crackdown against those who are trying to mint money by increasing prices illegally.
