RAWALPINDI:

A 27-member trade delegation of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) returned to the country on Saturday after participating in the Central Asian International Trade Forum and Trade Fair in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The two-day exhibition was held on October 29-30.

Pakistani businessmen organised an exhibition of Pakistani products at the forum and inked memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with different Central Asian companies.

RCCI President Asad Mashadi, who led the delegation, said there was great potential for Pakistani products in Kazakhstan, adding that the businessmen’s tour to Almaty was successful and will boost bilateral trade.

He told The Express Tribune that the Central Asian states were eager to establish economic links with Pakistan. The main hurdle in Central Asian-Pakistan trade, he said, was the absence of a secure transit route between the two, with chaos and uncertainty in Afghanistan.

“We have made some temporary arrangements to do business with Central Asian states through Iran and China but the full potential can only be realised when there is stability in Afghanistan.”

He said the Afghan authorities had also assured the delegation to do more to facilitate trade in the region.
