MARDAN:

Former chief minister and Awami National Party (ANP) leader Amir Haider Khan Hoti on Saturday defended allotting the lion’s share of discretionary funds to Mardan during his tenure, saying he acted sans discrimination.

Addressing a gathering in Sawal Dher town of Mardan district, Hoti tried to downplay the content of a recent report which states he spent most of the discretionary funds to develop his native district during his time as chief minister.

“I tried my best to address the genuine needs of all districts and provincial assembly constituencies on merit and in accordance with the recommendations of elected MPs,” said the former chief minister.

He spelled out the erstwhile ANP-led government’s achievements vis-a-vis establishing universities, colleges and schools along with improving roads and infrastructure. Moreover, Hoti promised establishing a women’s university in Mardan upon coming into power again. Similarly, he vowed to explore economic opportunities all over the province.
