The fact of the matter is that Kashmir is proving to New Delhi what Kabul proved to the Soviet Union.
AMRITSAR: This is with reference to Naveed Hussain’s article of November 16 titled “‘No’ to sabre-rattling, ‘yes’ to peace”. I appreciate the writer’s concern for poverty in both India and Pakistan. In the former, more than half the population lives on one dollar a day and its economic growth rate seems to be more of a concoction than anything else. The fact of the matter is that Kashmir is proving to New Delhi what Kabul proved to the Soviet Union. As far as Kashmir is concerned, there can be no solution other than the people of Kashmir being allowed their right to self-determination.
India occupied Kashmir in October 1947 and had things played out differently, India could have been driven out of the region as far back as 1947. Talking peace is good but we should not forget about ground realities, and one of them is that forgetting Kashmir would mean undermining Pakistan’s very ideology.
