LAHORE: An Anti-Terrorism Court sentenced Gullu Butt on Thursday to 11 years and three months in jail on vandalism charges in Model Town, Express News reported.

Butt has also been ordered to pay a Rs0.1 million fine.

While speaking to reporters, Gullu Butt’s lawyer said they accept the court’s decision but will appeal against it.

“Others responsible for the Model Town incident should be held responsible as well,” he added.

Earlier, Butt, allegedly an active member of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), was sent on a 14-day judicial remand on the orders of the magistrate.

Butt was caught smashing cars during the clash between PAT workers and the police outside the Minhajul Quran International Secretariat.

He smashed windscreens and windows of private vehicles with his club, while police officials looked on and the vandalism continued unabated.

On October 27, Butt denied charges of destroying public property and attacking police officials. Watch the video here:

Rs. 1million will go to government exchequer. What about loss of moveable property? Who will pay those whom property was destroyed by Gullu? What about Police squad whom Gullu was leading?

good decision by court and alarming sign for real culprits of model town……..if Gullu Butt is getting 11 year imprisonment for smashing cars than those who are behind model town killings will not get less than life time sentence. Nation is waiting for the day when all culprits of model town will be behind bars and get the deserved punishment.

Now Qadri’s and PTI(Imran’s) mob that was involved in vandalism at PTV and who had beaten countless policemen during dharna drama should also face the music.Recommend

This is the best news in years. Now the rest of the Police Force that participated in unlawful mayhem in Model Town should also be brought to justice, including those seniors who gave the order for Police to terrorize inhabitants of the area.

Where his police companions? why they are not being tried in courts? Justice will only be done when all culprits including police officials and any political entity involved in the model town massacre will be behind bars…

Well, they had to throw the book at him. After all the evidence captured by various TV channels, there was no way he could have denied what he did. Hope other members of PMLN take heed of what happened to their political brother and avoid model town type incidents in the future.

I do agree with his lawyer that others involved in model town episode should also be brought to justice

11 years and 3 months imprisonment on vandalism is totally over-exaggerated!
The Anti Terror Court should differentiate between a civilized State penalty and primitive disposition of sweet revenge!

This token gesture will not do. What about the ring leader, Shahbaz Sharif? Gullu was merely following his masters orders.

Justice done, but I think that’s too harsh, 11 years for breaking windows of vehicles is just too much. he didn’t kill anyone. 14 years is the punishment for a murder in Pakistan.

Gullu Butt was sentenced prison for 11 years because he was not a politician but Shahbaz Sharif even did not let the FIR to get registered against him because he is a politician, CM Punjab, Brother of PM and father of Deputy CM Punjab. Where is the constitution of Pakistan which says “Equal Law for all” and “Equility before law” this is direct violation of Supreme Law of the Land.

He should have been sentenced, but I do believe it is a cover to protect the real culprits, Shehbaz Sharif, the Punjab law minister, and the scores of police officers who called gullu butt and allowed him to conduct this vandalism while standing aside. Where is the case against all those? Everyone remembers the threats Khawaja Saad Rafique gave to Dr. Qadri on TV before he entered Pakistan. This was pre-planned.

Over exageration on a civil vandalism Charge. 11 years is not right rather time served and restituion for the damage. This is unfair, sounds like a deal with PAT members to stop the dharna and get some closure for Gullu Qadri.

The Policemen and their supervisors who watched Gullu destroy property, and supported his acts are just as guilty. They should at least be fired. But hey … we are talking about Pakistani justice system here. This reminds me of a joke:

An Afghan man when landed at Islamabad Airport was inquired by the immigration officer about his occupation. The Afghan replied: “I am the ex-Afghan minister for shipping and ports”. The Pakistani official was surprised to hear that and replied “How could you be a minister for shipping and ports for a country that is landlocked?” To this the Afghan replied: “Don’t you guys have a ministry and a minister for law, justice and human rights in Pakistan?? What is so unusual about having a ministry for shipping and ports in my country??”

A bit too harsh. Probably 1-2 years term sentence + compensation o the vehicle owners would have been sufficeint

i might be wrong but I think This was probably done just to appease PAT. An extremely harsh unjust judgement, and gullu has been used as scapegoat and a pawn. Now I think even 1-2 years for vandalism would have been too much. Probably 6 months + compensation would have been enough

The arrogance of Gullu Dutt is incomparable when you see the TV and the way he walks with his chamchas. The citizens are also waiting to see what punishment is handed out to the murderers and rapists waiting to be caught and in jail. Salams
