2nd Test: Pakistan whitewash Australia after 32 years
The men in green completed a series win against Australia after 20 years
ABU DHABI:
Pakistan achieved their first series win over Australia in 20 years with a thumping 356-run win in the second Test in Abu Dhabi on Monday, taking the two-match series 2-0.
The elusive win lifts Pakistan to number three in International Cricket Council's Test rankings behind number one South Africa and Australia.
Spinners Zulfiqar Babar (5-120) and Yasir Shah (3-44) rocked Australia once again for 246 in the second innings soon after lunch at Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
Pakistan won the first Test by 221 runs in Dubai.
Pakistan had taken a big step forward after scoring a mammoth 570-6 declared in their first innings and getting a 309-run lead by dismissing Australia for 261.
That never allowed Australia to stage a comeback and avoid series defeat for the first time since losing 1-0 in Pakistan in 1994.
The defeat was Australia's third worst in all Test cricket behind their 675 run loss against England in Brisbane in 1928 and by 408 against the West Indies at Adelaide in 1980.
In contrast Pakistan registered their biggest win in terms of runs, beating their 341-run victory over India at Karachi in 2006.
"It's really an honour for me to lead this side, the way everybody played," said Pakistan captain Misbah-ul Haq.
"Every individual performed and I'm really happy about that. I can't describe my feelings.
"We were working really hard and playing good cricket but not winning, so it's really good."
Australian skipper Michael Clarke heaped praise on Pakistan, saying they had 'played outstanding cricket in both Tests'.
"And we have been outplayed, unfortunately," he said. "It's been the track record of Australian cricket [in Asia] for a long time, unfortunately."
It was Australia's sixth Test defeat in a row in Asia after they lost 4-0 in India early last year.
Pakistan had to fight hard in the morning session as Steven Smith defied Pakistan during his resolute knock of 97, but once Smith departed, leg-before by Yasir, Australia lost their last four wickets for the addition of just eight runs.
Smith added an invaluable 107 for the fifth wicket with Mitchell Marsh, who fell after scoring 47.
Smith missed a sharp turner from Yasir who also bowled Mitchell Johnson and Mitchell Starc to finish with 12 wickets in the series.
Babar had Nathan Lyon caught for his second five-wicket haul, following up his first in the first Test in Dubai.
Babar finished with 14 wickets in the series as Pakistan did not miss ace spinner Saeed Ajmal's absence who is suspended due to illegal bowling action.
Before lunch Smith batted resolutely, using his feet against the spinners during his 204-ball knock and hitting a dozen boundaries.
Smith reached his eighth Test fifty with two boundaries off spinner Babar, who failed to add to his three wickets on Sunday.
Marsh, who top-scored with 87 in Australia's first innings, played Pakistan's pace-cum spin attack confidently and he and Smith added 55 runs in the first hour.
But Mohammad Hafeez provided the breakthrough when he had Marsh caught by Asad Shafiq off an uppish flick. His 130-ball innings included six boundaries. Hafeez finished with 2-38.
The win is also special for skipper Misbah who equalled the most wins record by a Pakistani captain with 14. Imran Khan and Javed Miandad also won 14 Tests as captains.
Misbah, declared man-of-the-match, equalled the feat of fastest century in all Test cricket during his 101 not out on Sunday, capping a memorable Test match.
Younis Khan was named man of the series for his 468 runs in two Tests.
Final Result
Pakistan defeat Australia by 356 runs and claim the series 2-0.
Prime Minister Pakistan and Patron PCB Nawaz Sharif congratulates Pakistan team on their victory against Australia.
Misbahul Haq said: "It's really an honour for me to lead this side, the way everybody played was amazing. Every individual performed and I'm really happy about that. I can't describe my feeling at the moment. We were working really hard and playing good cricket but not winning, we just ensured that we would keep on doing the basics. It hurt us the way we lost the [ODI] series and we were determined to come back and it's been remarkable for our side. It's really good to have new youngsters coming in and performing. Yasir Shah has been one good find. Playing a side like Australia, for the first time, he's got really good temperament, and in the coming future he can really deliver for us. The way Azhar Ali, Ahmed Shehzad and Asad Shafiq have batted, and Sarfraz is really a find. These guys are going to play for the next 7-8 years and we have a side for the future. Everybody is in form [ahead of the New Zealand series], everyone is full of confidence, and after that the World Cup."
Misbahul Haq is the man of the match.
Younus Khan bags the man of the series award.
Michael Clarke said: "Pakistan played outstanding cricket in both Tests and we have been outplayed. Unfortunately, all three departments failed for us. It's been the track record of Australian cricket [in Asia] for a long time, unfortunately."

Pakistan on top: Record tumble, so do Australian spirits
Runs continued to flow and records continued to tumble from Younus Khan’s bat as he scored a first-innings double century to become only the third Pakistani batsmen to score 8,000 Test runs, helping Pakistan improve their grip on the series against Australia on day two of the second Test at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.
“I am very happy to have scored 8,000 runs in Test cricket and that my performance has put my country on top in this series,” Younis said after his brilliant batting display. “The outburst before the series had put added pressure on me. But I gathered myself, came back here early and practised hard, saw Australian bowlers bowl closely in the nets, and it has paid off. Before this series I had no century against Australia, and now I have three against them, including a double ton.”
Pakistan resumed proceedings on 304-2 but Azhar Ali was dismissed after 10 overs in the day, caught behind down the leg off Mitchell Starc. Ali scored 109 off 250 balls and was involved in a 236-run stand with Younus.
Skipper Misbahul Haq then joined Younus with Pakistan on 322-3 and took on the role of aggressor. Younus got a lifeline on 125 when makeshift wicketkeeper David Warner, filling in for the injured Brad Haddin, missed a stumping chance.
Misbah and Younus continued to score freely in a 181-run stand and the latter soon brought up his double century, with his captain reaching hundred in the same over.
The Pakistan captain was soon dismissed on 101 though, caught and bowled off Steve Smith. Younus followed him back in the hut after playing on a slower delivery from Peter Siddle onto his stumps. He was given a standing ovation from nearly 15,000 fans for his mammoth 213-run innings.
“I really enjoyed playing today in front of a capacity crowd, which looked like an ODI crowd,” said Younus. “I was tired but when I saw people walking into the ground on the big screen, I pushed myself to score 200 for them.”
Younus’ double century was his the fifth of his career and he now sits second in the list of Pakistan’s double-century makers behind Javed Miandad with six, but he was quick to take the limelight off himself and praise the other two centurions in the innings. “Misbah played really well today,” he said. “In the first Test, Azhar took the pressure off me, while in this match I took the pressure off him.”
Asad Shafiq was then dismissed for 21 as Misbah declared the innings on 570-6.
Australia lose Rodgers
The decision to declare was soon justified as Imran Khan dismissed Chris Rodgers for five, with the Australians ending the day’s play at 22-1.

2nd Test: Pakistan win toss and bat against Australia
Pakistan captain Misbahul Haq won the toss and chose to bat in the second and final Test against Australia in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
Pakistan, 1-0 ahead after their big 221-run win in the first Test in Dubai, remained unchanged.
Australia, seeking to avoid their first series defeat against Pakistan in 20 years, made two changes with paceman Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell in for Steve O'Keefe and Alex Doolan.
Teams:
Pakistan: Misbahul Haq (capt), Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez, Azhar Ali, Younis Khan, Asad Shafiq, Sarfraz Ahmed, Rahat Ali, Imran Khan, Zulfiqar Babar, Yasir Shah.
Australia: Michael Clarke (capt), David Warner, Chris Rogers, Steven Smith, Brad Haddin, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon.

Tv umpire: Marais Erasmus (RSA)
Match referee: Ranjan Madugalle (SRI)

Records broken in the Test so far

• Misbah becomes the oldest Test centurion for Pakistan at 40 years and 156 days.
• Misbah becomes the highest scorer as Test captain with 2,447 runs in 31 Tests, surpassing Imran Khan, who had 2,408 runs in 48 Tests.
• Misbah and Younus score their 11th century partnership, the highest by any Pakistani pair.
• Azhar Ali and Younus’ 236-run stand was Pakistan’s best third-wicket partnership against Australia.
