Political Jirga: Sirajul Haq urges govt to reject PTI resignations

Haq said that the govt, with the acceptance of the resignations, will likely pave the way for mid-term election

ISLAMABAD:

The political Jirga headed by Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq again urged the government on Wednesday not to accept resignations of the lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

“If the National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq accepts resignations of the MNAs, it will further worsen the stalemate between the government and the protesting PTI,” the JI chief observed.

He was talking to the media at the residence of Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Rehman Malik after the meeting of the Jirga.

Haq said that the government, with the acceptance
of the resignations, will likely pave the way for mid-term election.

The Jirga urged the government to implement their recommendations to resolve the issue of rigging allegations on the 2013 polls as well as the electoral reforms policy. Rehman Malik, also a member of the Jirga, explained that if the stalemate goes on, most of the responsibility would fall on the government.

Negotiations should take place between the government and the PTI, as it was the only option, he said.
