The fourth estate: Journalists urged to promote national solidarity

LAHORE:

Senior journalists on Wednesday urged media professionals at a seminar to promote national solidarity.

The seminar was organised by Punjab University Academic Staff Association at Al Raazi Hall.

PU Vice Chancellor Mujahid Kamran presided over the seminar. Journalists Attaur Rehman, Salman Ghani, Arshad Ansari, Najam Wali Khan and Tariq Mateen were the guest speakers.

In his address, Kamran said that over the last 10 years, as many as 132 journalists had been killed.

He said journalists in Pakistan worked in dangerous conditions. He said the media had highlighted the plight of flood victims, Thar drought victims and the internally displaced placed (IDPs) and commended their efforts for free and fair reporting.

Ghani said that if Pakistani media had played a positive role in 1971, the country would not have been divided.
