Encouraging cooperation: South Korea looks at Pakistan for trade
He said trade agreements between Pakistan and Korea are in the pipeline to strengthen bilateral trade relations. Hwan added that his country is eager to enhance trade relations with Pakistan and are also keen to invest in Pakistan.
“Korea is fully aware of the problems faced by Pakistan regarding business and is willing to assist Pakistan to enhance trade between the two countries.”
He was exchanging these views with RCCI Acting President Mian Humayun Parvez in a meeting.
Ambassador said that a 20-member Korean business delegation is currently in Islamabad to attend “Invest Pakistan” Conference. He said that embassy is already trying to collect funds for IDPs through different programmes. Hwan added that there is a need of frequent exchange of trade delegations and ensured his full cooperation in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, Parvez said that Pakistan is situated in a geographically important location and Korea must tap the Pakistani trade market.
He added that the total trade volume between the two countries is around $1.6 billion, which is very low. He further said that Pakistan’s major exportable item to Korea is cotton, leather, surgical goods, fruits and furniture etc.
Parvez said the Korean embassy should cooperate with the local business community and Pakistani businessmen should be given access to the Korean trade markets.
“The business community of both sides should visit each other in an effort to explore different exportable items for their countries”, he said.
