Healthy living: Operation to ensure hygiene under way

CDA has issued 731 notices in the past four months

ISLAMABAD: The Health Services Directorate of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has issued a total of 731 notices in its ongoing operation against sale of unhygienic, expired and adulterated edible items in the markets of the capital during the past four months.

According to an official press release, during same period, the directorate’s teams have fined some 283 shopkeepers and vendors for selling substandard food items in markets across Islamabad.



Similarly, 1,666 different edible items have also been confiscated from such shops and destroyed. Moreover, 607 cracked or chipped utensils were also seized and destroyed.

During the operation, the directorate has partially sealed 20 different restaurants, bakeries and hotels for selling unhygienic and substandard food items besides registration of FIRs against two violators.

Each team is led by a food inspector and all the teams have been working under the supervision of a health officer. Their performance is being reviewed by the authority on a daily basis.

In the meanwhile, Member Administration and Estate Amer Ali Ahmed said that operations against the sale of substandard and unhygienic food and cold drinks will continue so availability of healthy food could be ensured.


He added that stern action would be taken against the violators of rules and regulations, adding that the campaign against unhygienic edible items would continue without favour or fear.
