Unhappy partners: MQM brings up ‘Muhajir’ province

For the first time, the issue of a Muhajir province was taken up by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, whose MPA Kamran Akhtar, diverted the House's attention towards the resentment among Urdu-speaking people about the 'derogatory' use of term 'Muhajir'.

"We are being discriminated in every sector by the Sindhi-dominated government," said Akhtar. "Muhajirs are being ignored in government jobs, development projects and even during admissions in public universities and colleges. The time has now come for a separate Muhajir province."

Apart from information minister Sharjeel Memon, no other Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker responded to his comments. "Please avoid hate speech here," said Memon. "We have clear views on a new province. No one can carve out a province from Sindh."
