KARACHI: Army registered their fourth win in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) to take the top spot as they defeated NBP 2-1 at the Jinnah Football Stadium in Islamabad on Friday.

Both teams played a goalless first half before NBP took the lead with Muhammad Asif’s goal in the 49th minute of the match. However, Masroor Hussain scored an equaliser just two minutes later, while Ghulam Rasool sealed the win in the 63rd minute.

With the victory, Army have 14 points on the table and are ahead of KPT with a better goal-difference, having scored 10 goals in six matches so far and conceding only one.

In the second match of the day, Afghan FC contained former champions Wapda 1-1 at the Railways Stadium in Lahore.

Arsalan Abbas scored the opening goal of the match in the 27th minute to give Wapda a 1-0 lead at the interval. However, Afghan FC captain and striker Jadeed Khan struck the equaliser in the 56th minute to draw the game.

“We’re not the top side in the league, but we are definitely not easy to defeat,” Jadeed told The Express Tribune. “We’ve played draws against Army and KRL. So far, PAF seemed to be the toughest side, but we’re still marking KRL as the top contender for the title. They are consistent as compared to Army or PAF.

“My job is to assure that our team plays our trademark game. We are from Chaman and we want to show our opponents that we possess talent.”

In today’s fixtures, defending champions KRL will play PIA in Islamabad while Railways will take on Baloch FC in Lahore.
