Security increased after receiving warning of suicide bombers targeting Air India flight

Four airports in India increased security after receiving a warning of suicide bombers targeting an Air India flight, according to The Hindustan Times.

The warning came in the form of an email from the Civil Aviation Security to the Kolkata office of the Airports Authority of India, after which four airports -- in Mumbai, Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Kochi – tightened security.

The Bureau of the Civil Aviation Security, in a letter, said the email warned that suicide bombers would attempt to board an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to Mumbai on Friday midnight and the Mumbai-Kochi flight on Saturday morning, according to The Ahmedabad Mirror.

New security measures include putting anti-hijacking units on alert, increased checks on passengers and tightening access of control.

India's CISF DIG Anand Mohan convened a high-level meeting to review the security at an airport in Kochi. Further, bomb detection and disposal squads, the Quick Response team, police and CISF are on constant lookouts at the airport.

“We have received the input about the possibility of suicide bombers boarding Air India's Ahmedabad-Mumbai and Mumbai-Kochi flights in the wee hours on Saturday. Security has been upped throughout the airport,” said Kochi airport director R K Singh, according to the Times of India.
