Regional Committee: WHO elects Saira Tarar as vice chair

The 61st session of WHO regional committee is being held in Tunis, capital of Tunisia

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar has been unanimously elected as vice chair of the regional committee of World Health Organisation Eastern Mediterranean Region. The region comprises 21 countries stretching from Pakistan in South Asia across the Middle East and till Mauritania in North Africa. The 61st session of WHO regional committee is being held in Tunis, capital of Tunisia. The health minister is leading Pakistan’s delegation, said a message received from Tunis. In electing Pakistan’s minister as vice chair, the forum recognised Pakistan’s leading role in policy making and setting public health agenda for the region. The forum also acknowledged the contribution made by Saira AfzalTarar in confronting health challenges to Pakistan and making significant contribution to the public health process at the regional and global level.
