Snatching of mobile phones

Letter October 20, 2014
It is responsibility of government and the law-enforcement agencies to take concrete steps to root out street crimes

KARACHI: Mobile-phone snatchings have made the lives of people miserable in Karachi. I would like to advise everyone that if they become a victim of this crime, it is advisable that the mobile phone is given to the robber calmly because any resistance can cost lives. I have been mugged of a mobile phone a couple of times. The first time this happened at a location where a Rangers’ mobile was parked just a short distance away. The second time this happened, there was a police mobile parked nearby. On both occasions, the law-enforcement agencies could do little to help me.

It is the responsibility of the government and the law-enforcement agencies to take concrete steps to root out street crimes. So far, the authorities have failed in performing their duties.
