MQM submits resolution against opposition leader Khursheed Shah

ISLAMABAD: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday submitted a resolution in the National Assembly calling for the removal of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Khursheed Shah as Leader of the Opposition in the House, Express News reported.

The move came after MQM decided to quit the PPP-led coalition in Sindh on Sunday.

On Monday, MQM submitted a resolution against Shah in the NA secretariat.

If MQM wants to unseat Shah, then it would need the help of other opposition members in the assembly including Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. PPP have 46 seats in the Lower House, while MQM has 24.

If MQM can secure PTI’s support, who have 33 legislators in the assembly, then may be able to elect an Opposition Leader of its own choice.

It is worth mentioning here that all but three PTI MNAs ahd submitted their resignations to the speaker of the House. While those who had tendered their resignation have yet to appear before the speaker of the assembly to validate their resignations, former PTI President Javed Hashmi had resigned during the joint session of the assembly in September.
