Industrial energy conservation drive launched

ISLAMABAD: The Engineering Development Board (EDB) has embarked on an energy conservation programme in the industrial sector and engaged an expert from the Netherlands. The programme has been launched keeping in view the energy crisis, which has adversely affected almost all sectors, particularly the industrial sector, an EDB statement said.

Energy wastage in industries was enormous which could be reduced considerably by taking measures with little or no investment, it said.

In order to point out areas where energy was wasted, the Netherlands expert was taken to some re-rolling mills. These units would be developed as pilot projects which would be replicated, it added.

The EDB was also engaged in the process of hiring experts in furnace design to encourage installation of energy-efficient furnaces in the melting sector.
