They also think of Imran Khan, of Tahirul Qadri and his minions. How their hatred refuses to die. And of Musharraf. They were his victims. So, when did they become the bad guys? And why is Musharraf playing the victim. He is at liberty to roam about in the country. Unlike them.
But sometimes, they also think of their PM. How aloof has he become. How unreachable. Always guarded closely by the bureaucracy. He is their PM, not the bureaucracy’s. The babus will serve anyone who sits upon that throne. They brought him here. Shouldn’t they be given the proper audience they deserve? But when they are given the chance, they all are tongue-tied. As if a veil separates them from their leader. If they knew the PM would listen, they would have told him what went wrong. Because they know it well. The tiny mistakes that the government made. The fact that their PM never quite recovered from the loss he suffered on the day of the military coup. And that he still hasn’t come to terms with the fact that he wasn’t allowed to participate in his father’s funeral. In fact, just because of this, he considers everyone who joined Musharraf as his father’s killers. The PM lived his entire life in comfort. For him, these shocks must be quite debilitating.
Now when they look at the Chaudhry brothers, Shaikh Rasheed, Qadri and others among the government’s detractors, they realise they indeed were once the PM’s allies. They joined Musharraf and the PM could never forgive them. But if the underlings could muster courage, they would remind him that it was he who left them behind and they didn’t betray him until he didn’t betray them. Perhaps, not his fault. But they are politicians; not their fault either. And they would tell him, if you think your father’s loss was big sir, it wasn’t as big as that of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) when his dear uncle, Hazrat Hamza (RA) was killed in battle. The Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) forgave the murderers. Why then, shouldn’t you, sir? The PML-N government, they reckon, is far more competent and honest than the PPP’s was. But where the PPP beats it is the ability to mend fences, best their egos and to reconcile.
And then they recall embarrassing moments. Like when the PM was found telling his minister not to forget to mention Geo. And the Delhi visit. Then they proudly tell you, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is a good man, who just lacks tact. They worry that unlike his Indian counterpart, the PM hasn’t given a strong statement on the LoC violations yet. They are cognisant that Nawaz Sharif’s campaign is portraying him as being deliberately soft on India. The same India that didn’t waste a minute in backstabbing him by cancelling the dialogue process. Kargil was one thing, but you are living in 2014, not 1999 sir, they want to tell him. And on the Geo fiasco, they honestly think the PM could have shown more empathy towards his DG-ISI. Not destroying the network sort of empathy, but still, some sensitivity. Likewise, the PM could have been more accessible to the media for interviews. They would have said this and much more. But they know when hurt or ambushed, he retreats to the inaccessible inner sanctum of power to lick his wounds. This, then, is their message in a bottle, which the PM should know about. They think if he knew this, no enemy would stand a chance against him.

@H Chaudhry: Nawaz wasn't exiled. He signed a deal to leave Pakistan for 10 years. you can also google this fact.
@Parvez I am not defending any one! I am giving you facts and asking you not to SINGLE out NS here when every one and their mother is involved in Tax evasions and have family as foreign citizens. Looking forward the issues will be resolved if people will start telling truth and asking their leaders. Why don't you confront Imran and company for lying about NS Taxes? It sure is not 5000 Rs. I hope you get my point.
@H Chaudhry: Two wrongs NEVER make a right.......so your defence is rubbish.
The Babus, as you rightfully call them, serve their own interests before anything else. Their philosophy is not to rock the boat and keep it steady enough to jump over to another boat when the time is right. One would assume the PM's special assistants and advisors would have a different approach, but they seem to be cut from the same cloth. The perks of MP1 and a nice office in the opulent PM Secretariat are too good to jeopardise to saying the truth. Also, Mr Sharif should realise that the five year mandate he believes he has been given by the public has changed. Everyday is a new race and there are no victory laps for yesterday's triumphs. It's time to take stock, rethink a strategy, and move decisively to deliver.
The Sharif family has paid a little over 1 Billion Rs. in Taxes since 1990s including 7 years of exile and taken over of their mils in Pakistan by former dictator. Look Tax evasion is a serious problem in Pakistan and no one including NS is clean but why not have correct facts? There was a Dawn/Tribune article about 2 weeks before 2013 elections detailing NS and Sharif family taxes. I suggests a simple google search will get you to that. Its an eye opener. Give them credit for what they have done instead of keep using a figure of 5000 Rs Tax that is ancient and not correct to begin with.
@Parvez Childern of our Alternative Imran Khan are also British Citizens, The leader of 4th largest party is a Briticish Citizen, the Co Entertainer with Imran in this Dharna Darama is a Canadian Citize, the wife and family of Chaudhry Nisar are US Citizens, Wives of 6 Core Commanders have Green Cards. Wife/Son of former President Musharraf are US Citizens!
We have a problem here but it is not with just family! BTW NS family was exiled out of Pakistan by military, what is the excuses of all others?
Take two Prozacs and call Bilawal in the morning!
@H Chaudhry: You made no mention of the fact that the minister claimed that Nawaz's ( our PM ) son was a British citizen ?...........are you in all honesty, comfortable with that ?
Nawaz Sharif should also realize that there are talented people in provinces other than Punjab and in cities other than Lahore. His inability to get along with those who do not speak Punjabi is also his main weakness. By appointing close relatives to positions of power he has proved that he is insecure and lacks confidence. The sooner he changes himself, the better it will be for him.
@All Checking facts is not that difficult in this day and age and contrary to what you like to think, the only income NS has is as a Director of one sugar mill. He can not pay tax on something that belongs to his Adult Son or brother or what ever. My point is that NS is pay a lot more than what is portrayed and this lie will come back to bite the layers in election campaign. Now go and do your basic search, google is your friends.
@ H Choudhry
2.5 million????? i drive Honda and live in 15 marla house and i pay Tax which is more or less 2 million....Either he is not paying proper tax or our tax system supports Elite Class and in either case PMLN is responsible as they being the Govt.
@H Chaudhry: Thank you Sir.........I needed a laugh.
@H Chaudry PM NS paid less than Rs.10,000 tax 4 years ago. Explain the math please
@H Chaudhry: And 2.5 million is next to nothing for NS...If this includes his tax from his Govt salary then it is nothing! How does a $ billionaire get to become a dollar billionaire without paying meaningful amounts of tax?
@Parvez NS paid 2.5 million RS taxes last year or two ago. Check your facts. A simple google will get you several Dawn and Tribune articles on NS taxes.
Yesterday while flicking through the TV a credible anchor asked a PML-N minister the old question of how does Nawaz Sharif's son live in a multi million Pound apartment in London, pay heavy taxes to the British government, while Nawaz pays next to nothing to the GOP..... and the Minister replied that Nawaz's son was a British subject........I am certain that apart from me others heard this and the perception it created certainly did not help Nawaz.
