FAISALABAD:

Pakistan Yarn Merchants Association has demanded that the government ensures continuous supply of electricity and gas to the textile sector to boost the country’s exports.

Officials said the sector was the backbone of the national economy, earning 60% of foreign exchange and providing livelihood to 38% of the workforce, while millions were engaged in supply chain, wholesale and retail sides. They also pointed out that this was a crucial time for the textile sector as importers in Europe and western countries were getting ready to place orders for the Christmas season.

They said increased productivity is also important to avail benefits associated with the GSP Plus facility provided by the European Union, adding that obtaining maximum orders from European importers at the upcoming Heimtextile Exhibition in Germany is their target now.
