Breakout foiled as tunnel discovered near Karachi Central Jail: Rangers

KARACHI: Rangers personnel have foiled a plot to breach Karachi Central Jail by discovering a 40-metre-long tunnel under a nearby house, Rangers official Colonel Tahir Mehmood said on Monday.

While addressing a media briefing in the city, Colonel Tahir said that Rangers officials were able to take timely action after receiving information from intelligence agencies.

He also said that the suspects most likely got help from inside the prison.

"The house was bought by the suspects about five to six months ago and we have information about the identity of the seller," the officials further revealed.

Sindh jails minister Manzoor Wasan, while speaking to Express News shortly after the Colonel Tahir's media briefing, said that the plot was foiled after receiving intelligence reports.

During his visit to the house where the tunnel was found, Wasan stated that he would give more details later today.

According to sources, seven people allegedly involved in the plot to breach the prison have been arrested, Express News reported.

House owned by a citizen of Lahore

The house where the tunnel was discovered is owned by a citizen of Lahore named Shahid, Express News correspondent Muzahir Saeed reported.

A total number of five people, including two brothers involved in ‘embroidery and cacium (choona) trade’ were living in the house.

Security agencies began monitoring the house after finding out about a cacium truck, which was brought there on the second day of Eidul Azha.

The five suspects were arrested on the fourth day of Eid, whereas a roadside vendor has also been taken into custody.

Another drama by the Rangers to prolong stay in Karachi .Maybe the tunnel diggers refused to pay extortion to the Rangers .
