FAISALABAD:
The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) has sent Rs128,000 bill to a couple living in a one-room house damaged in the floods in Bhowana. Noor Muhammad, 60, a resident of Noor Allahdad village told The Express Tribune on Sunday he lived with his wife in a one-room house. He said his house had been damaged in the floods. He said the FESCO had sent him a bill of Rs128,000 showing consumption of 5,118 units in a month. He said his wife had visited the sub-division office of FESCO in Bhowana and told FESCO officials that they had sent them an inflated bill. He said she told them to correct the bill. He said a FESCO worker had taken Rs2,000 from his wife and later advised her to go to divisional office in Chiniot to get the bill corrected. Noor Muhammad said FESCO officials disconnected his meter when they failed to pay the bill. When contacted, FESCO spokesman Tahir Sheikh said there had been a computer error in this case. He said the company would send a corrected bill to the couple. He said the FESCO chief had taken notice of the bill and a team had been constituted to probe the matter. He said strict action would also be taken against those who received Rs2,000 from Noor Muhammad’s wife.
