The Sharmas: Ishant replaces injured Mohit

KARACHI: Fast-bowler Ishant Sharma has been brought in to replace injured Mohit Sharma for the remainder of the home ODI series against West Indies, according to ESPNcricinfo. The Board of Control for Cricket in India said Mohit has been ruled out after aggravating his ‘bilateral shin pain’. 

Mahendra Singh Dhoni is likely to feel Mohit’s loss towards the death overs as Ishant is less adept at finding the block hole. Mohit bowled four of the last 12 overs of the West Indian innings, conceding only 24 runs. However, he has struggled to take wickets, claiming only eight in 11 ODIs at an average of 46.12, with an economy of 5.18.

Ishant’s last ODI was in New Zealand in January and he is making a comeback after missing the bilateral series in Bangladesh, the Asia Cup and the one-day series in England. He was dropped for the home ODI series against the West Indies in 2013 after poor performances in the preceding series against Australia in October, but was subsequently included for the tours of South Africa and New Zealand.
In the last 12 months, Ishant has taken eight wickets in seven ODIs, at an average of 48 and an economy rate of 6.87.
India are trailing 0-1 in the series with the second ODI to be played in Delhi on October 11.
