According to a press release, the purpose of Shaharyar’s trip was to improve coordination and forge friendly ties between the cricket boards of India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
The PCB chairman met SLC President Dharmadasa in Colombo and discussed matters related to regional and bilateral cricket.
During the visit, he informed the hosts that Pakistan is following a gradual and step-by-step approach to open up and revive international cricket in the country, following which he extended an invitation for their women’s cricket team, ‘A’ Team and U19 teams to tour Pakistan, for whom he promised maximum security arrangements.
In reply, Dharmadasa assured his fullest support to Pakistan cricket in the days to come.
It may be mentioned that Pakistan backed the revival of international cricket on Sri Lanka’s home grounds by sending their national cricket team during the island’s prolonged war against terrorism.
