Claims Pakistan was flourishing under previous government

LAHORE:

Former deputy prime minister Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on Wednesday condemned “the criminal silence and indifferent attitude” of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif regarding Indian violations of the ceasefire across the Line of Control and the working boundary.

He was speaking to journalists. Elahi was accompanied by Sunni Ittehad Council chairman Hamid Raza, Nasir Shirazi of the Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen and Fayyaz Warraich of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek.

The interaction was held at the residence of former Faisalabad district nazim Rana Zahid Tauseef.

Elahi said India had been violating the ceasefire for four days but Sharif had remained silent about it. Elahi said he should have condemned the attacks that had caused loss of life.

He said India should not construe Sharif’s silence as being representative of the feelings of the nation. Elahi said the people would never compromise on the territorial integrity and defence of Pakistan.

He said the country had prospered during the tenure of his Pakistan Muslim League-Quiad (PML-Q) government.

Elahi said industry had flourished and factories were operating at full capacity in its term.

He said utility prices were increasing these days despite constant power outages. Elahi said several businesses had closed. He said his government had completed scores of development projects in Faisalabad. Elahi said these included a cardiology hospital, an engineering university and an industrial estate.

He said the government had failed to make the university functional and had ‘dumped’ the Rs6 billion allocated for the construction of Faisalabad Ring Road for the Faisalabad Metro Bus Project. Elahi said the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid government had also lined over a hundred kilometres of canals and established Rescue 1122.

Elahi prayed for those killed in the ceasefire violations and for the success of a party rally scheduled to be held on October 12 in Faisalabad.

A meeting of party leaders was held at Tauseef’s residence later.

PM is a contractor, spine-less and is here to make money. He has chosen people in senior post who will also keep their silence despite the onslaught.
