LAHORE: Prisons Inspector General (IGP) Mian Farooq Nazeer said on Sunday that 48,000 inmates across 32 facilities would be served calorie-rich special meals on the occasion of Eidul Azha. He said that they would be served halwa, chicken pilaf and chicken korma for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nazeer said that the department was serving hygienic meals to the inmates. He said that they were being provided with quality bread. Nazeer said that healthy animals were now being slaughtered at central jails under the supervision of doctors and assistant superintendents. He said that anyone wanting to inspect standards at prison kitchens, slaughterhouses and stores was most welcome. He said that the Punjab was the first province in the country to provide prisoners with meals in accordance with recommended daily calorie intake guidelines. He said that security had been beefed up at facilities across the province and some members of the special force were patrolling prisons around-the-clock. Kot Lakhpat Central Jail Senior Superintendent Asad Warraich and Camp Jail Superintendent Shahram Khan said inmates were being served quality meals.
