Former Supreme Court judge Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday has sent a defamation notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan for levelling accusation against him regarding his involvement in rigging last year general election.
Former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Shah have already sent defamation notices against Imran Khan.
In his legal notice, Justice Ramday lashed out at the PTI chief for making “false, slanderous, libellous and sinful accusations” against him which he called “a manifestation of the worst kind of hate speech”.
“You have injured and harmed my hard-earned reputation and have lowered or tend to lower me in the estimation of others.”
He said the allegations had harmed and wounded his pride which members of his family always had. “Your reckless accusations have caused immeasurable agony, pain and suffering to us all.”
He sought a public apology from the PTI chief along with withdrawal of what he called “the false, the illusory, the unfounded and the baseless” allegations in question levelled against him, warning that he would sue the PTI chief for defamation if he fails to comply within 14 days.
“May I also inform you that as per Section 8 of the Defamation Ordinance, 2002, you have fourteen days’ time to do the needful failing which I shall be at liberty to take recourse to such legal remedies in such jurisdictions as may be available to me to vindicate my honour and respect which include my right to sue you for damages and to prosecute you for the criminal act of Defamation,” says the legal notice, the copy which has been obtained by The Express Tribune.

Where have all the comments gone, tell us that you caved in to the arms twisting by some well known gangsters in some other garbs.
It would be fun to watch the proceedings where some of the known liars will be stripped of their false exteriors. The exchange of arguments between the Lawyers and Liars would be historic.
IK has either to prove his allegations in court or apologize publicly else face the defamation suit which will prolong and the media too will highlight the developments regularly . this will further erode his image . Alternately he will give an explanation that h e did not mean what has been quoted in the media and his words have been mis interpreted. . If Ik believes in democracy its institutions viz, Election Commission, Independent Judiciary , Independent Media and parliamentary system or the representation of the people through elections have to be strengthened . It is high time and better reforms for election process, reforms of land ownership, transparency in governance including decentralization of decision making process and accountability for the deeds or inaction be enacted.transfer of power other than election process will be harmful for the people . Let us hope for the best.
