Islamic Art: Nida Sadek to speak at talk series

Lecture will examine role of women as patrons of art and creators of art objects in pre-modern Islamic societies

LAHORE: Nida Sadek will give the 19th THAAP talk on The Role of Women in Islamic Art on October 14. The lecture will examine the role of women as patrons of art as well as creators of art objects in pre-modern Islamic societies. Sadek is an historian of the arts of Islam and an independent scholar. After doing BA from the Faculty of Archaeology at the University of Cairo in her native country Egypt, Sadek did her MA and PhD in Middle East and Islamic Studies at the University of Toronto in Canada in 1990 with a thesis on Architectural Patronage in Yemen from 1229 to 1454. She held a three-year appointment as director of the American Institute for Yemeni Studies in Sanaa, Yemen.
